Fueling Progress with Recycled Materials

Updated: Jun 15, 2023

Café Mesra is a brand associated with PETRONAS, Malaysia's national oil and gas company. It is a café concept that offers convenient-store services along with dining options to provide comfort and ease to customers.

Recycled Solutions from the Ocean & Land

KIAN’s partnership with Café Mesra begins with our eco-friendly repertoire. With their sustainability agenda as a guiding principle, Café Mesra prioritises selecting partners who can provide sustainable solutions for the outlets. That’s precisely why KIAN emerged as the perfect choice for the project.

Across 21 outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor in Malaysia, Café Mesra are furnished with Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) Skate chairs. These chairs are made from a blend of recyclable plastics and wood fibres; an alternative option to traditional wooden chairs in indoor settings.

A notable highlight is Café Mesra at The Gardens North Tower, Kuala Lumpur, which stands as their first retail cafe that use furniture pieces made from Ocean-bound Plastic (OP) and old denim jeans. The contrasting pairing of white OP Louvre chairs and blue denim tables settles in nicely with Café Mesra’s earthy colour palettes.

One of the remarkable advantages of our global supply chain is the flexibility it grants us in terms of planning and the convenience of quick access to our products. By shortening the distance our products travel, we not only reduce CO2 emissions, but we are able to minimise the risks of damage that can occur during long-distance transportation. This means our products reach their destinations in optimal condition, reducing the need for replacements or additional production. Unnecessary waste generation is greatly reduced.

Overall, these eco-friendly furniture pieces not only add a touch of modernity to Café Mesra’s interior, but also promote a balance between aesthetic, durability and sustainability in a business setting. As such, our partnership seeks to positively impact the environment and society, while forming a long-term, mutually profitable relationship that shares the same vision for a greener world. As Rome wasn’t built in a day, it takes time to create great things. And with that in mind, we look towards a low carbon future that shifts away from traditional sources and practises more reusable alternatives.
